St. Francis Music Center Orchestras present spring concert
St. Francis Music Center proudly presents the St. Francis Orchestras spring concert, Flowers in Loon Lake, Music Inspired by Nature, on Friday, May 3, 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel on the campus of the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls.
Everyone is welcome to this musical journey with nature! Three orchestras will perform. The musicians are from the central Minnesota area and range in age from grade school age children to adults.
The concert will feature the world premiere of Sundown at Loon Lake composed by Pamela Wolters. Pamela spent 40 years as a K-12 music teacher and has been on the staff at the Music Center for over 30 years. Ms. Wolters wrote this piece to appeal to a Minnesota audience while challenging the St. Francis players. The St. Francis Brass Ensemble will also play on this piece.
The St. Francis Mezzo Orchestra will present Icicles, First Light and a traditional Chinese folk song. The Maestoso Orchestra will perform several songs including Seas of Stars and The Olive Tree. Both orchestras are under the direction of Melissa von Itter.
The St. Francis Chamber Orchestra, directed by Amanda Jansen, will perform Fields of Gold, Leaf in the Wind and Winds Through Time. The Chamber Orchestra is the Music Center’s most advanced orchestra.
The St. Francis Brass Ensemble will perform What a Wonderful World and more. This ensemble is composed of advanced brass players from throughout the central Minnesota area.
The public is invited to attend this free concert to celebrate the wonders of nature! This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
St. Francis Music Center is sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minnesota.
