Habitat Day looks a little different this year. Crane Meadows National Wildlife Refuge will be hosting a special drive-thru event for community members to pick up bluebird house and wood duck box kits to assemble on your own! Pre-registration is required and runs March 1st - March 17th.
Reserve your two kits by registering through this platform. You'll receive a confirmation email with your free "ticket"; on March 20 we ask that you arrive during your chosen time slot. This helps decrease traffic congestion and prevents long lines and waiting times.
We ask that each family sign up for only one time slot to help allow kit supplies to be distributed to more community members. To keep traffic flowing and to fulfill all reservations, no substitutions are allowed. Spots are limited; if you are no longer able to make your time slot, please cancel your registration.
Habitat Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 20, 2021. In the case of inclement weather, the back-up date for the event will be Saturday, March 27, 2021. Cancellation or postponement will be announced over the radio and refuge website.

Day of the Event
Arrive during your registered time slot to receive your bird house kits! There will be signs, cones and refuge staff directing you when you arrive. Please open your trunk when promoted by staff at the loading station. If you have a manual trunk or have a tailgate, please let a staff member know and our staff will open the trunk and load the kits into the back of your vehicle.
Please stay inside your vehicle. Our staff will load kits into the back of your vehicle.
Kit Options
Combo Bluebird & Wood Duck
From 10:00am - 12:00pm we will be offering a combo kit, which will include one bluebird house kit and one wood duck box kit.
- Bluebird house kits include all wood pieces, screws and instructions for bird house assembly. Additionally, you will receive a nail for the door and rebar and conduit to mount the house on.
- Wood duck box kits include all wood pieces, screws and instructions for box assembly. Additionally, you will receive a nail for the door and a lag bolt and washer to hang the box.
Bluebird Houses
From 12:30pm - 1:30pm we will be offering two bluebird house kits.
- Bluebird house kits include all wood pieces, screws and instructions for bird house assembly. Additionally, you will receive a nail for the door and rebar and conduit to mount the house on.
