Join GRA and Gary Block Tours on Thursday, April 11th, when we depart Little Falls at 7:20 a.m. from the northeast corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot. Our comfortable Andy’s Charter Service motor coach will also pick up in Royalton, Rice, Waite Park or any other city along the way. We’re headed first to Abdallah Candies in Apple Valley. It all started in 1909 in Minneapolis when young Albert Abdallah, a Lebanese immigrant, would stand over a small copper kettle filled with the best ingredients attainable. As a newcomer to this country, Albert knew he would have to create a product that was so high in quality that its success would be guaranteed. Using the same wholesome and pure ingredients and even some of the same copper kettles, Abdallah Candies is proud to offer you these same confections with the fourth-generation family owners in Apple Valley where they manufacture over 200 varieties of chocolate and candies. The unique gift shop also features cards, apparel, home décor, toys and more. You’ll also receive a free four-piece sampler when you return to the coach.
Lunch is included at Q. Cumbers in Bloomington, the best buffet in town with a fifty-foot-long salad bar. They’re family owned, Minnesota grown and they love taking care of their guests with their homemade soups and bakery, plus weekly hot entrée specials.
Following lunch, it’s on to the Bakken Museum which inspires a passion for innovation by exploring the potential for science, technology and the humanities to make the world a better place. Located on the west shore of Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis, the Bakken features exhibits for all ages. Get spooked in Frankenstein’s Laboratory, meet the mother of science fiction in Mary & Her Monster, test out some of Ben Franklin’s favorite static electricity experiments in addition to the regular exhibits. In addition to indoor exhibits, the museum also features three acres of meticulously kept gardens.
Our final visit is the Walker Art Center. Since forming in 1940, the Walker has collected the visual, performing and media arts of our time. Walker is a renowned multidisciplinary arts institution that presents, collects and supports the creation of groundbreaking work across the visual and performing arts, moving images and design in over 65,000 square feet of exhibition space. There will also be time, weather permitting, to explore more than 40 sculptures from the Walker’s collection on 11 scenic acres in the heart of Minneapolis including “Spoonbridge & Cherry”. We should be returning to Little Falls around 7:45pm.
