Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 The Little Falls Carnegie Library is offering personalized Internet assistance on Thursdays in October. From 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, Cheryl will be available for beginner help sessions setting up an email account or doing other basic Internet activities. The Kiwanis invite you to the VFW on Thursday, October 9, from 7-9 pm for Trivia Night. Teams of six will compete in answering trivia in six rounds. The cost is $500 to sponsor a round (six available) and field a team of six, or $125 to field a team of six. Food will be provided and there will be a cash bar. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Morrison County. St. Gabriel's Hospital Auxiliary is sponsoring its 18th annual Ride 4 Health (formerly the Ride for Unity) on Saturday, October 11. Enjoy biking on one of three loops (10, 19 or 20 miles) through beautiful central Minnesota along the Mississippi River or take your family on a fun trip to visit city parks. All routes begin and end at St. Gabriel's Hospital. Proceeds generated through your participation in the Ride 4 Health will be used by the auxiliary to fund hospital items that make significant differences for our patients and staff. The entry fee is $20 for early registration (by September 26) or $25 for regular registration. Preregistered bike riders will receive a free t-shirt in their selected size. T-shirts are not guaranteed to those that register after September 26th or the day of the event. If you have questions, please call 320-631-5601.

A free history film series "Birth of Flight" filming of Seaplanes Development and Use, will be shown at 7pm. In this episode of "Birth of Flight" find out how the Boeing 737 twin engine jetliner was to become Boeing's greatest success because of the fact that it has one of the lowest approach speeds of any jet transport and the minimum equipment required for refueling. Camp Ripley will host its Semi-Annual Retiree Seminar Thursday beginning with coffee and social beginning at 8:30 a.m., with breakfast at 9 a.m. and the meeting beginning at 9:30 a.m. until about 11 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Old Hangar on the north end of the Cantonment area.

This is an informational meeting and will touch on subjects such as Tri-Care insurance, ID personnel, State Veterans Cemetery and more.

This annual sale has products for women, men and children. There’s a huge array of jewelry, fashion accessories, socks, belts, ties, and many gifts perfect for stocking stuffers for the upcoming Christmas holidays.

Battle of the Books Registration
Registration is open for the Battle of the Books at the Little Falls Carnegie Library taking place on Thursday, Oct. 23, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Battle of the Books is for children ages 8 through Grade 6. They may register as teams or as individuals who are grouped into teams. They will answer trivia questions from a short reading list provided by the library on registration.  10/25/2014   Buckthorn Education and Removal Practices
A buckthorn identification and removal methods class will be offered at Charles Lindbergh State Park on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 1 to 3 p.m., starting from the park office. This class is designed for land owners and stewards with minimal buckthorn knowledge or removal experience. This program will begin with a walk along trails in Charles Lindbergh State Park to compare differences in areas where buckthorn growth has been controlled versus where it is still growing healthily. This will also allow for practice in buckthorn identification. Following this, control techniques will be demonstrated and buckthorn education handouts distributed.

Please call the park to register at (320) 616-2525. The class is free. A Minnesota State Park vehicle pass is required to enter the park ($5 per day or $25 for 12 months). In case of bad weather a message will be left on the park’s answering machine stating if the event has been cancelled.

Adults are invited to a program titled “Beer and Brewing in the Land of Sky Blue Waters” at the Little Falls Carnegie Library on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. This event provides information about the basics of beer brewing. It also explores the history of Minnesota’s beer scene, beginning with Minnesota’s first brewery in Saint Paul in 1849, and including the innovators who have spurred a new generation of craft breweries. Registration is requested. This program is presented by the Minnesota Historical Society. It is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. An event called History After Hours: Historia on the Hill features an evening of history, happy hour and socializing beginning at 5:30pm. History After Hours is a partnership of the Linden Hill Historic Event Center, Charles A. Lindbergh Historic Site, the Little Falls Chamber of Commerce. The goal of History After Hours is to provide opportunities for adults living in and around Little Falls to socialize, learn new things and build community.
