 Lindbergh: Extraordinary Boy - Thursdays-Sundays
Charles A. Lindbergh was a record-breaking aviator and a world-famous celebrity. Today some people consider him an American hero, while others see him as a controversial figure. In this 45-minute tour of his boyhood home, explore where it all began. Get to know where he came from in order to explore who he was. Following the tour, delve deeper into the stories of Lindbergh's later years through interactive exhibits in the visitor center, including the popular cockpit flight simulator.

 Living History: Meet the Lindberghs
Saturay June 7 & 21, July 5 & 19, August 2, 16 & 30.
Learn what life was like for Charles Lindbergh growing up on a farm during the First World War. Costumed characters portraying Lindbergh family members and neighbors will provide insights to Charles' interests in aviation, technology and nature. Hear inside stories about the Lindbergh family and have the chance to try some of the chores Charles did around the farm. Experience life of an ordinary boy who grew up to do extraordinary things.  Summerfest
Local nonprofits will host the Scandia Valley Summerfest at the Scandia Valley Town Hall and Park in Cushing. Friday there will be food and activities in the park with fireworks at dusk. A craft fair will be held Saturday 10-5pm, firemen's turkey barbeque from noon-5pm along with kids activities, bike rodeo, a helicopter landing. Saturday evening, food, live music and more. Sunday there will be a pancake breakfast from 8-11am, church in the park at 10am, raffle drawings at 11am and a motorcycle ride at noon.

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman will host its annual corn boil from 4:30-8pm. The menu includes quarter pound burgers with all of the trimmings, fresh corn on the cob and bars for dessert. For information, call 320-277-3939.

Platte River Day, is Royalton's annual area celebration. It is held the first Saturday of August each year and is hosted by the Royalton Lions Club. This year's events include: a petting zoo, parade, turtle races, tractor pull, youth football and baseball tournaments, a hot dog eating contest, street dance with music by Chaser and a 5K. St. Joseph's Church in Pierz will host its parish festival beginning with a polka mass at 10am. Dinner follows from 11am-2pm in the air conditioned church basement.  08/04/2014   Vietnam Traveling Exhibit
The Minnesota Military Museum is hosting a special Vietnam traveling exhibit Monday August 4 from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm. The exhibit is sponsored by the Mobile Riverine Force Association. The mobile museum and memorial is dedicated to the soldiers of the 9th Inf. Division and sailors of Navy Task Force 117 as well as all Navy & Coast Guard Units in the Mekong Delta and other areas of Vietnam from 1966-70. It is housed in a 48’ fifth wheel trailer and will be on the grounds of the Military Museum.

In addition, Minnesota author Wendell Affield will be on hand to sign copies of his book “Muddy Jungle Rivers”. Affield was a Navy cox’n on an ATC, (Armor Troop Carrier) river boat in 1968-69 in Vietnam. He served near the North Vietnam border on the Cua Viet River and in the Mekong Delta south of Saigon. His book provides the insightful journey of a young Minnesotan who is sent to Vietnam and arrives at the height of the Tet offensive.
 08/05/2014   Yo-Yo Master Performance
Teens and school age children are invited to enjoy a performance by Dazzling Dave, Yo-Yo Master, at the Little Falls Carnegie Library on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Dazzling Dave is a professional yo-yo performer who has been performing since 1998. His awards include Midwest Regional Champion and Masters World Champion. He has toured the world demonstrating his tricks and entertaining audiences. Attendance is limited and registration is required. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

 Upsala Heritage Festival
Upsala's Heritage Festival celebrates the area's Scandinavian heritage Friday, August 8-Sunday, August 10. There will be a medallion Hunt beginning August 4 with daily clues posted on the Upsala city website, area businesses and KLTF radio station. The Richardson Township Lakes Area Lions Club will host a fishing derby for youths at the Platte Lake public access on County Road 51 in Hillman. Registration takes place the morning of the event. Prizes will be available.

August Fest in Randall is sponsored by the St. James Catholic Church and takes place on Sunday, August 10. At 10:30, people start lining up for Johnny Gorka's chicken and Janson's sweet corn dipped in real butter. Come to the Falls Ballroom for a 50's Outdoor Drive-In Party on Wednesday, August 13 from 6-8pm. There will be outdoor music, a picnic and a beer garden. Bring your pride and joy vintage car and win prizes! This event is open to the public and there is no registration fee.

The third annual Ducks Unlimited Golf Tournament will be held at the Little Falls Country Club, starting at 9am. The tournament is scramble format. Fee includes a year membership, meal, cart and green fees. Guests can also come to dinner only for a fee. There will be games, event raffles and silent auction items. Register by July 18 to be entered in the early bird drawing. All proceeds will be going to conserve more wetlands and the habitat of waterfowl. Rock the Park is the annual outdoor concert in Maple Island Park presented by Great River Arts. The day will kick off early with family inspired art, dance, theater and live music by Power Plant and the URock Music Camp. Live music by well-known local bands will begin at 5pm.
